February 17, 2006, Newsletter Issue #89: Flu Vaccine

Tip of the Week

The flu vaccine has been labeled as safe for pregnant women by The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). ACIP also recommends that pregnant women who have medical conditions that put them at a risk for developing complications from Influenza, should be vaccinated. This vaccine is usually given after the first trimster as a safety precaution. However, for those women who are at a risk of complications, the vaccine is usually administered during the first trimester. This vaccine is usually administered during October-November since Influenza is most prominent during December-March.
