What are pregnancy food cravings and aversions and should they be obeyed?

Understanding Pregnancy Food Cravings and Aversions

Early food cravings are more common than those which last further into the pregnancy, and the same goes for food aversions. One reason for this could be the high level of hormones present in a pregnant woman's body during those first few months. But it's also worth remembering that your body is quite capable of telling you what it needs and although some food cravings while pregnant may seem a little strange, in most cases you can just go with it and enjoy.

Most pregnancy food cravings and aversion is sensible when you think about it. Pregnant women typically go off coffee and the mere suggestion of cigarette smoke can be enough to turn a pregnant woman's stomach. All the things you know are bad for you are suddenly the last thing you want to eat and drink. These food aversions while pregnant usually occur in the first three to four months, when morning sickness is also most likely. If you find something that helps to keep the nausea at bay then use it. As for those cravings? It's probably your body taking over again and telling you what it needs.

As long as you are eating a healthy, balanced diet when pregnant there is really nothing wrong with indulging your body's fancies.
